The Thing 2011 is a loosely based prequal to the original movie "The Thing;" which was released in 1982. Two awesome movies with the same title? Yup. But they are definately not the same "thing". The movies are both relatively similar and alot of tribute is paid to the 1982 version in the new release. Fans of the original will be instantly grasped by this movie becuase the acting is superb, the creature is extremely creative, and the plot is full of conflict which will leave the viewer playing a "guess-who?" Game throughout the movie.
The Thing delivers effective "shock," treatment and is morbidly horrifying in some scenes. The "Things," that happen to people in this movie are supernaturally stunning and creepy... Hey nice to meet you; you seem like a nice guy "BLARGHHHHH! Im the thing! You get the point.
I highly recommend this title for fans of sci-fi, horror, and fictional film lovers.
If you watch the new version of this film closely, it connects beautifully with the first film; it can be watched without seeing the first title and still not pose a threat of spoiling or tainting any originality.
